About Me

I originally started blogging in 2004 as a way to share pictures of my crafts (cross-stitching, in particular) with other crafty folks.  After a couple of years, my interest shifted to weight loss and losing the "baby weight" that was still hanging around when my son was almost 3 lol.  I began sharing a lot more recipes and using my blog as a place to record my workouts.

Somewhere along the way, I began running and my blog (and life) took an entirely new direction.  My free time revolved around training plans, working in long runs around family and work and researching my next running events.  I ran my first 10k, then another and soon after a few half-marathons leading up to running my first full marathon on PEI in October of 2009.  It still amazes me that I was able to finish a marathon (in under 5 hours!).  I'm not known for my athleticism, to say the least.  I still say it was my first and last full marathon (but we'll see).  I think the half is my distance of choice due to the training time that a full marathon requires.

In February of 2010, I lost interest in blogging, completely.  I was tired of writing recipes, recaps, or trying to remember to take and post pictures.  My son's homework seemed to explode and I needed to spend a lot more time helping him, in addition to putting in a lot of overtime at work.  Coming up with a blogging topic felt like so much effort!  So, I decided to take a break.  I had no idea how long my break might be, but apparently 8 months was about right.

During that time, I've read over 30 books, stopped watching TV almost completely (except for our family movie night and the occasional children's show with Cameron), taken up yoga and Pilates, taken a break from running and then started running again.  The running break did wonders for my plantar fasciitis and it renewed my interest after the burnout I experienced from training for so many months.

One of the books I read during my blogging hiatus was called The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.  I love this book.  I think it's a realistic version of Eat, Pray, Love.  As a wife, mother and full-time employee, I can't leave my life for a year to find myself.  I also do not feel that I need to do something so drastic.  I am a relatively happy person (who can whine with the best of 'em) but I think there are things that we can all do to improve our lives and be happier.  I know a big one for me is getting my house in order. We have too many things!!

So, I've decided to resume blogging.  However, I want to leave the old "stuff" behind and start fresh.  I've removed all of my old posts so I can start a new "notebook".  Out with the old and in with the new!  I think my blog will cover a number of topics as it has in the past, although I do not tend to share a lot about my family here.  I have an awesome husband and a great kid, what more can I say?  I also do not discuss my job very much.  I'm a full time IT consultant and that takes up enough of my day, I don't need to write about it too lol.

I think it's safe to assume that my blog will include entries on running, fitness, recipes, the occasional book review and my "happiness project" which will begin with the colossal task of de-cluttering my house.  If this sounds interesting to you, I hope you'll enjoy reading!
